Dance Festival at New Theatre 12th December 2019

Wantage Sparkle and Shine

Our dance club have been working hard since September to learn a dance routine to perform at the Oxford New Theatre. After lots of debate about what style of dance we wanted to perform to a theme of ‘Christmas Theme, Winter Scene’ we decided on ballet to Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire and Jazz to Sparkle and Shine, we also included some sign language in the performance.

Erin and Millie, who are dance students from King Alfreds choreographed and taught the children the routine over the term, the girls learnt new techniques and also learnt about timing and listening to the music to help them.

On Thursday 12th December, it was finally time to perform on the big stage! We travelled to Oxford on the service bus and arrived at the theatre for our rehearsal slot. The rehearsal did not go to plan, however we were given a couple of extra minutes to put things right. We talked over the dance and all agreed that we could much better.

The evening performance was fast approaching and the girls were full of excitement as they did their hair, makeup and put on their costumes.

Finally it was our chance to shine, the girls put on the best performance and wowed the audience and most importantly their parents with their dance.

Please take a look at the recording of the dance.
